Report Overview

The 32-page document, the first of its kind, outlines the outcomes of the Responsible Canadian Energy program, a CAPP initiative that replaced its previous Stewardship program. Designed "to measure [CAPP's] performance and encourage [its] members to find new approaches to reduce our environmental footprint, to ensure every worker returns home safely every day, and to continue to improve the ways in which we [CAPP] communicate and engage the public and other stakeholders" CAPP's homepage provides a summary of the program's vision and principles.

Following an introduction by CAPP's president, David Collyer, the report begins with a section, "Here's What We Said, and How We Are Doing" (between pages 2 and 3), that pairs the organization's guiding principles with the steps outlined in the report. Below are the principles identified by the report.
  • Provide a safe and healthy workplace for our employees, contractors and for the communities in which we work, with a goal to do no harm;
  • Conduct our activities in an environmentally responsible manner;
  • Engage our stakeholders in open and responsive communications;
  • Create opportunities for economic and social benefits in the communities in which we operate, at a local and national level; and
  • Conduct our business activities with integrity, ensuring all people are treated with dignity, fairness and respect
In turn, demonstrating the actions taken by CAPP over the course of 2009, its steps are organized using four overarching categories that organize the rest of the document:
  • People
  • Land
  • Air
  • Water
